GAMSAT: Working full time and sitting for GAMSAT?

Working full time? Aiming to ace GAMSAT 2010? Well, my friend, if you have the guts and are willing to sweat it out, nothing can really stop you from doing it. Many will tell you of the sacrifices you will have to make, how preparing for the GAMSAT is going to suck out all the fun from your life…if you too think on similar lines, you might as well continue with your present job. Clearing GAMSAT is about real dedication and passion. If you are filled with these, preparing for GAMMY won’t seem stressful at all but rather stimulating.

GAMSAT is gruelling no doubt, but not impossible. Prepare well and you will feel like a triumphant Roman gladiator on exam day. What you need to do is strategic planning that will make the most of each precious little hour that you can squeeze out during the day.

Start with identifying and tackling your weak points. If writing essays makes you jittery, focus on it. If you did not have Science at the degree level, start with going back to some good textbooks. If English is a second language in your case, try and work at it. If you find physics scary, start with it. Each weakness you conquer will boost your confidence more effectively than any pep talk you shall ever receive from a ‘guru’.

Cover all the basics. This involves a thorough revision of scientific concepts: physics, chemistry and biology. Once you have got that in place, start with solving the Sample test papers. Students who solve mock GAMSAT test papers are more confident when they sit for GAMSAT. They are more comfortable with the test format and are likely to fare better. If you are working full time, then the weekends will have to be utilized real well. Make sure you manage to finish a substantial amount of studies during this time. Have your share of fun and leisure but devote at least one whole day to some serious study. Studying on a Saturday will acquaint you better with the GAMSAT as the GAMSAT too, is held on a Saturday.

GAMSAT is about reasoning and not just rote learnt facts. This may work to your advantage. If you believe in applying your knowledge to solve real life problems, you will be at ease with GAMSAT. So, don’t let a job stop you from pursuing your dreams, start with your GAMSAT preparation today.
